Preparing your community

Helping others create a Household Readiness Plan

Community groups are trusted, caring and recognised sources of support in their local areas with an array of skills. The valuable contribution of these groups before and after disasters is well recognised. If your community group would like to play a vital role in getting your community prepared for bush fires and floods, you can facilitate preparedness conversations using the Household Readiness Toolkit.

This toolkit is designed to take a person-centred supported approach, to develop a plan that is based on the individual’s capability and capacity to plan, prepare and act during a disaster.

The Household Readiness Plan is designed to be a quick reference tool that can be easily located and followed during a disaster. It includes 1-page plans to Leave Early, Stay in Place or Evacuate.

The Household Readiness Planning Guide provides a framework for the planning conversation supporting the plan holder(s) to identify personal strengths and capabilities that can be leveraged to develop their plan and respond quickly during a disaster.
