Drawing on Carers NSW experience supporting carers in flood-affected NSW, combined with findings from Carers NSW 2022 National Carer Survey, Carers NSW established the Care2Prepare project in June 2022. The three-year project focuses on increasing the inclusion of people living with disability, older people, and carers in local disaster responses.
The Care2Prepare project team has been working with older people, people living with a disability and family and friend carers to co-design inclusive tools to be more prepared for bush fire and flood. The tools take a person-centred approach and have been co-designed and field tested with over 260 households to ensure they meet the needs of this group.
The resulting Household Readiness Toolkit provides a tailored resource and process for understanding individual capabilities and delivers a practical plan to prepare for and respond to bush fire and flood. You can find the toolkit here.
